About - Patty Anderson
Manager
One of the most familiar and welcoming faces anyone will
ever see at the Ketchum Grill is its long-time front of the
house manager, Patty Anderson. Patty has been at the Ketchum Grill since it opened 17 years ago and became the manager over 13 years ago.
Patty juggles daily the reservations and special requests, coordinates and educates her staff and handles the inevitable twists and turns with dignity and ease. “Our staff is amazing, our food fresh, seasonal and creative, and on any given night the Grill is the place to be for locals and visitors alike. I’m fortunate to be a part of this, and to work alongside everyone who makes it happen including all our purveyors and guests.”
Patty arrived from San Diego after college in 1978. Looking
to expand her So-Cal surfing horizons, Patty’s original plan was to stay for just a single ski season. “That first winter it was 40 below and really really cold, but I had a great time...
and then Spring came and I really fell in love with this place.”
Like many others Patty never left and made Sun Valley her home. She eventually met and married her husband, and raised her two children, 19 and 22 years old, here in the
Valley. Her passion for the outdoors remains to this day.
Most evenings when you are greeted by Patty you’ll notice
a warm glow still lingering from her ski, bike, hike, snow-
board, run, or rollerblade earlier in the day.
Partners in Wine
Over the last 13 years Patty and Scott have become true Partners-In-Wine actively collaborating on the Grills award-winning wine list. They conduct four tastings each week continually massaging the wine list searching for unique,
high quality, exceptional value wines. You’ll find the big name wines on the Grill wine list, but you’ll also find an unique array of little known, domestic and imported boutique wines as well.
“Scott and I are wine aficionados and wine sleuths too. We love discovering new varietials and blends and rare boutque
or little known wine makers. We both have well-developed palettes but very different preferences in wine. This combination means we always have great wines across a variety of styles and adds depth and breadth to our wine list not typical at many restaurants.”

A Bump in the Night
When you spend 20+ years in and around one building you end up seeing lots of funny, odd, and sometimes, spooky things. The historic Ed William’s home (where the The Ketchum Grill and before that Freddys Taverne D’Alsace. was located) was built in 1885. Patty, who also worked at Freddy’s, has had (along with many of the staff) occasional sightings, poltergeist events, and harmless pranks they attribute to the friendly old ghost of Ed Williams himself.
According to Patty, “He is tall with a black beard, black pants, and a black hat. I’ve seen him in the Kayak room and from time to time he tips over wine glasses or causes pots and pans to clatter off the shelves in the kitchen”
